Benin's Amazons have launched their second round of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. Opposed to Mali this Thursday in Lomé, the Beninese won 3-1 thanks in particular to a double of Romaine Gandonou. A success that allows them to approach the back sleeve with an interesting advantage.
Romaine Gandonou strikes twice
Freed from the first lap, the Amazons quickly took over control of the match. Romaine Gandonou opened the score in the 12th minute before recidivating four minutes later to allow Benin to lead 2-0.
The Beninese then continued their momentum and found a third way back from the changing rooms. Milhad Sadikou scored the third goal in the 47th minute, giving the Benin advantage more weight.
Mali reduced the gap to the 54th minute via Aïssata Traoré. The Eagles Ladies, however, failed to return to the game. Benin thus retains its advantage until the final whistle.
A successful first round for the Amazons
With this 3-1 win, the players of Abdoulaye Ouzérou made a successful entry in this second round of the Olympic playoffs. Apart from the efficiency of Romaine Gandonou, the Beninese selection was also able to count on a remarkable performance by Aude Gbedjisi.
This success allows the Amazons to take a serious option before the second round. However, they will have to remain concentrated, as the qualification is not yet acquired.
See you in Bamako
The two selections will meet on Tuesday 13 October in Bamako for the return round. Benin will have to defend its two-goal advantage to continue its journey towards the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
After this first success, the Amazons now have a great opportunity to cross this second round and continue their journey in the Olympic playoffs.
